Abstract: The research is motivated by previous studies on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which revealed that the majority of research subjects experienced PTSD symptoms following disaster situations. This requires anticipation, as data from the United Nations for International Strategy for Disaster Reduction shows that Indonesia is the most disaster-prone country. The current focus of disaster management is primarily on handling physical-material infrastructure, with little emphasis on the mental well-being of disaster victims. The research also uncovered the fact that these disturbances are not only experienced by direct victims of the event but can also affect helpers (volunteers) or rescue teams. The study recommended a counseling model based on the science of hypnosis. However, hypnosis alone is insufficient, and additional supportive knowledge related to counseling, such as neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), is needed. The counseling model was initially designed in previous research based on theoretical studies and field findings. Through this research, expert testing or judgment of the developed model was conducted and empirically tested in the field. The long-term goal of this research is to obtain an applicable counseling model based on hypnosis and NLP for the self-development of counseling individuals experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder. The Research and Development (R&D) method with a combined quantitative-qualitative approach was used to achieve this research goal, divided into three stages of activities. The initial stage involved a collaborative focus with the partner institution (Indonesian Board of Hypnotherapy/IBH) on the literature review of PTSD and the scientific elements supporting the development of the model, surveys in disaster-prone areas for an initial study of PTSD victim cases, and the development of a hypothetical model based on theoretical-academic research and initial studies of the conditions of PTSD victims in disaster areas. The research progressed to the second stage, which included expert and practitioner validation in the form of focus group discussions, empirical validation, initial model testing, and evaluation that culminated in model revisions. The third stage encompassed broader empirical validation in several areas outside West Java Province, model evaluation and final revisions, the creation of a manual and a mechanism for continuous model training, the initiation of collaboration with disaster mitigation organizations, and the dissemination of the final model through academic publications such as accredited national journals or indexed international journals, including the primary submission of intellectual property rights in the form of the developed model’s copyright. The achieved research involved the revision of counselor training models, including hypnosis and NLP training modules for counseling to improve the mental health of individuals experiencing PTSD. In the future, this model can be trained and applied to those involved in institutions focusing on recovery and rehabilitative self-development, particularly in terms of the mental health conditions of individuals experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder, allowing them to return to a normal and productive life.
