Second Week of the International Virtual Course 2021

The second and third days of the International Virtual Course 2021 organized by Educational Psychology Master Program, School of Postgraduate Studies, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia were held on October 5th and 6th. There were three topics presented during this week’s agenda. The first topic entitled “Designing Token Economy System to Improve Child Behavior” presented by Dr. Tina Hayati Dahlan, M.Pd., Psikolog was held on Friday. The second and third topics namely “How to Deal with Reading Problems of the ‘at Risk Students’” and “Lesson Study in Inclusive Educational Settings” presented by Dr. Imanuel Hitipeuw, M.A. and Prof. Sui Lin Goei were held on Saturday.

In Friday’s class, the participants learnt one of the strategies to modify students’ behavior using the token economy system. In this class, participants were taught how to improve desired behaviors, especially in the learning process, using tokens as the reinforcer. Teng Heng Lan, one of the participants, commented that this topic was interesting even for non-psychology students because this strategy is important for classroom management

In Saturday’s classes, the agenda was divided into two sessions. In the first session, the participants were invited to learn the strategy to overcome students’ reading disabilities. On this occasion, Dr. Imanuel Hitipeuw from Malang State University as the lecturer of this session emphasized that reading is a very important part of the learning process for everyone including at-risk students. Thus, everyone must have the opportunity to read, even those who have disabilities and reading problems. He also mentioned that by dealing with life problems including reading disability, people could improve their quality of life.

The second session in Saturday’s agenda was presented by Prof. Sui Lin Goei from Windesheim University. On this occasion, Prof. Sui explained about Lesson Study as a strategy to solve problems in the classroom. Furthermore, she also explained how lesson study could be one of the solutions to cultivate inclusive education. Related to this, the participants gave a positive response by asking further about how to start building inclusive education in countries where inclusive education has not become a focus yet.

After all, these classes are part of the IVC 2021 agenda which will be held during this month. Moreover, there were four topics out of seven which were already presented. The next class will be held 12-14 November 2021.
