GENERAL LECTURE (KULIAH UMUM) Bersama Dr. Syed Muhammad bin Syed Abdullah dan Prof. Dr. A. Juntika Nurichsan, M.Pd.

Program Studi Psikologi Pendidikan kali ini mengadakan kuliah umum bersama dosen tamu dari Malaysia dan juga dosen senior UPI pada hari Jum’at, 19 Agustus 2022 di Gedung Sekolah Pascasarjana Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. Agenda tersebut dilaksanakan secara hybrid, sehingga peserta yang tidak dapat hadir secara langsung, tetap dapat menyaksikan agenda ini melalui zoom meeting. Peserta terdiri dari dosen, alumni, dan mahasiswa. Ada sekitar 52 peserta yang hadir melalui zoom meeting dan 20 peserta yang hadir secara luring.

Tema pertama yaitu ‘Academic well-being among University Students: Post Pandemic Challenges’ disampaikan oleh Dr. Syed Muhammad bin Syed Abdullah dari Universiti Sains Malaysia. Secara umum, Dr. Syed mengatakan bahwa sebenarnya tantangan-tantangan seputar academic well-being ini sudah ada bahkan sebelum masa pandemi. Oleh karena itu, support system yang sehat sangat diperlukan agar peserta didik dapat mengatasi tantangan tersebut dengan baik dan mencapai kesejahteraan (well-being), khususnya dalam dunia akademik. Berdasarkan data dari UNESCO selama pandemi, 9 dari 10 siswa di 165 negara terkena dampak penutupan lembaga pendidikan, yang diperkirakan bahwa lebih dari 1,5 miliar siswa dari pendidikan dasar hingga pendidikan tinggi terpengaruh. Lalu, bagaimana dengan keadaan setelah pandemi (post-pandemic)? Dr. Syed mengatakan bahwa media digital telah membawa sebuah transisi baru dalam proses pembelajaran yang tentunya membuat siswa/mahasiswa harus beradaptasi dengan hal ini secara cepat dan tepat.

Selain itu, berdasarkan hasil-hasil penelitian sebagian besar mahasiswa kehilangan keterlibatan dalam kelas maupun pembelajaran ketika mengikuti pembelajaran daring (online). Mereka juga melewatkan interaksi tatap muka dengan staf akademik maupun teman-teman mereka yang tidak jarang memicu academic stress, bahkan burn out. Secara garis besar, Dr. Syed menyampaikan 3 hal untuk mengatasi tantangan-tantangan seputar academic well-being pada mahasiswa, antara lain adalah dukungan sosial (social support), program pengembangan resiliensi akademik, dan menciptakan gaya belajar dan lingkungan yang kondusif.

Pada sesi kedua, Prof. Dr. A. Juntika Nurihsan memaparkan mengenai hubungan antara guru dan murid (teacher-student relationship). Beliau menekankan pada pentingnya hubungan yang baik antara guru dan murid agar tercipta suasana belajar yang menyenangkan dan kondusif yang berujung pada penyerapan materi oleh murid secara optimal. Berdasarkan hasil-hasil penelitian, hubungan guru-siswa berkorelasi positif dengan prestasi akademik siswa yang lebih tinggi, perilaku pro-sosial, penyesuaian sekolah dan keberhasilan sekolah. Ikatan emosional antara guru dan murid dengan keterampilan komunikasi yang baik akan mampu untuk mengatasi konflik, membangun kedekatan, dan mengurangi ketergantungan atau memandirikan. Hal ini diharapkan dapat mengurangi perilaku tidak hormat siswa kepada guru, begitupula sebaliknya.
