Abstract: Teaching is one of the professions that can be done by anyone as long as the teacher has theoretical knowledge and teaching skills. Many people believe the teaching profession is more suitable for women. This phenomenon often occurs in early childhood education. The percentage of the figure shown for male teachers in early childhood education is very low in Indonesia, based on data compiled from the statistical data center. There are 13,288 for the number of male teachers and 338,605 female teachers. This causes an imbalance of gender roles in early childhood education. In this case, parents have an essential role in children’s education, therefore parents must have a right perspective about gender equality. This research uses a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews for the data collection.

Keywords: Gender, early childhood education, parents.
