Abstract: This research focuses on the development of a psychoeducational communication training design for elementary school (SD) teachers based on the Student-Teacher Relationship (STR) theory and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), due to the concerning phenomenon related to the teacher-student relationships at the elementary education level. Additionally, this research is founded on a comprehensive study of the theory and several empirical pieces of evidence emphasizing the significant influence of the quality of teacher-student relationships in elementary schools on students’ success. The specific objective of this research is to design a complete training program with its supporting tools. To achieve this goal, the research method employs the Design & Development (D&D) model by Richey & Klein, 2014. The research object includes the content, approach, strategy, and evaluation tools of the developed training design. The research subjects are 24 SD teachers who participated in the limited trial implementation, originating from elementary schools in the cities of Bandung and Cimahi. Data collection tools utilize a Google Form containing 15 training target elements. The limited trial was conducted with a one-shot pre-posttest design using nonparametric Wilcoxon statistical testing. The research findings reveal a significant improvement in each of the targeted training elements. This is indicated by the results of the SPSS version 18.0 calculations, which show that the Wilcoxon test Z-value calculation is p < 0.05, even lower than 0.01. This signifies that the developed training design enhances the communication skills of SD teachers as participants in building quality teacher-student relationships. The conclusion of this research is that STR as the content of the training design and NLP as the substance and technique of training implementation have successfully elevated the participants’ (SD teachers) competence in developing their knowledge, mindset, and skills in cultivating quality teacher-student relationships in school. The recommendation is to conduct in-depth analysis regarding the competency of the trainer in the developed design, and furthermore, to test it on a larger and more comprehensive subject group in the future.
