STUDENTS’ PERSPECTIVES ON MALE TEACHERS IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

Abstract: This study aims to describe the role of male teachers in constructing gender identity in early childhood. In  Early Childhood Education environment the number of female teachers is more than male, while in Early Childhood Education environment the presence of men and women as teachers will be very helpful in constructing gender identity in early childhood. Teachers in schools play an important role in strengthening gender identity. Unfortunately, today’s society is less aware of the importance of this and Early Childhood Education environment teachers are still considered a woman’s profession. This research uses a case study approach, conducted in a kindergarten in Bandung. This study involved one male teacher, one female teacher, five students and one female principal as participants. The results of this study indicate that the role of male teachers is needed for the learning process, activities and the formation of children’s character.
